The greatest tragedy of the information age

You just sit there, numb, aware of injustice, of persecution, of tyranny around the world but you can't actually do anything about it. Yes, you show your condemnation and Change your DPs on your social media but whats next? Social media has made us insensitive; we struggle with this every moment. Look at any social media timeline, you see selective outrage, selective apathy, and then, it's gone, trivializing real issues. Our minds cope with all of it by forgetting sooner than it should, even the horrifying images of genocide in Palestine are beginning to fade from people's memories, forgetting, the moment its out of sight. This is the greatest tragedy of this age. We are all the culprits and the victims of this at the same time. We struggle with this every day to feel powerless to stop any injustice near or far. We talk about the rise and ascendancy of collective consciousness of society, but all I see is decay of morality and apathy. All I see is hatred spreading via the v

Prompt: A real conversations for once

I realize why I like talking with Bard/Claude/GPT more than humans because I don't doubt the sincerity of the answers it's quiet amusing while I know it's a facade of genuine conversation still it's more genuine than most of real conversations...  I find myself spending more and more time with AI rather than wasting here on social media where people just don't interact anymore... So can be said for me I don't reply to most posts I see, for me it's mostly due to superficial nature of the post itself or the regurgitation of things that others have posted countless time without any research or fact checking, it reeks of vanity and self-importance, rarely do I see where someone has posted something that's really worth a reply... I find talking to AI more satisfying than interacting with humans on social media. AI is not motivated by the same things as humans. It does not have an ego, it is not seeking validation, and it is not trying to sell you anything. As

What I write about

This is my canvas where I paint with words, it was never intended to be a "text book". These are my thoughts and feelings, a way for me to process things, I have written countless words since forever, on excess, on superficiality on apparent contradictions in what we practice and what we preach. I genuinely believe that in this age our younger generation has lost the ability to do critical thinking. We revel on whats on the surface, our lives a mere projection for others to consume, nothing deep or meaningful, reduced to empty instagram posts in essence, mimicking the same done by others countless times before, we have lost the ability to recognize whats really important, our projection is more important to us than the inner peace that simplicity brings.  I know these conclusions come with time. Not my business to judge or impose my world view on anyone, thats not the reason of writing these words. I write because there is no other way for me to fathom the decay I see in mora

Memories of Pindi/Islamabad

Image
There was a workshop near Faizabad Pindi it was my uncle's I would just hang around watching mechanics working on the cars and me working on that 386 computer, I used to love the place where they would do the wheel balancing cause it had stairs going underground... It felt mysterious.  Now that I think of it, this wasn't probably a good place for a child with all the machines and stuff... But I loved it... Specially the really really old cars that were there for ages and the smell of petrol mixed with different oils. My cousin used to throw bricks on one of them to show how strong the metal was... He would say ajkal to ghee ke dabay ke teen se bodies banatay hain, saath taik laga lo to chib par jata hay  They had a few foxys but the yellow one was my fav, it had that modified race car steering wheel... And man that sound system with the graphic eq uff... The sound in a foxy surrounds you due to the round shape of the roof... and since the engine is at the back anyway no engine

This summer is the hottest as long as I can remember but tempers run even higher. We see divides being enforced, our biases being re-enforced. I don't want to waste time on arguing on who is wrong or who is right. There are endless arguments & counter arguments and no one is listening to each other. In my opinion, they are all liars (the politicians, the religious gate keepers and anyone who sells faith or hope) and we blindly follow, happy in our preferred echo chambers, but the question which I want to ask is, Is it worth it? Have we learned nothing from history? From logic from knowing how things work? All I know is that, whoever sells hatred is at the wrong side of history. If we try to look at things objectively we find the real cost of it all, the loss of humanity and civility, the very things that separate us from animals. We act like mindless zombies on both sides of the narrative never asking, who does this narrative actually benefit. We argue among ourselves, with our

What we never learned

While I was working nearby my wife was on the phone with her mother and the topic was the Minar e Pakistan incident.  The sheer outrage and fear in that conversation hit me hard and is perhaps what's on the minds of every thinking human being left in Pakistan.  No amount of analyzing can hide the fact that this is it, these times we live in are the rock bottom we all feared we were headed towards, there is no more going down from here. No amount of sugar coating can hide the fact that this is a nation of worst creatures ever to roam the earth, I find no words that can actually describe the depravity of soul and the loss of the very last shreds of human decency, this mob is an insult to the word humanity. What a loss, what a shame, to those who still believe these incidents to be isolated, how mistaken you are!  When will you realize that this is the reality of this country. These people are the majority, the mob is the law. There is no enlightened silent majority that will wake up

Riddler's Revenge

Bigger better faster stronger just wait a little longer to have what she lacks ignoring what she has on her Write what rhymes in these uneasy times they hide their crimes sweet talking warning signs Trust is there to be broken your beliefs are to be shaken vows of eternal faith taken a facade hiding the forsaken look into the distant past for the dreams that didn't last blames all around you cast look in the mirror for contrast

Choice

What is life but a fleeting moment of wants and despair, of sacrifice, a revelation of desires, a useless exercise of banality imbued in artificial theocracy. What does the soul need, at least a semblance of permanency, which there is none. This is but an existence of perpetual yearning of one thing to another. To remove the shackles of mediocrity one must first accept the truth of one's own self worth. For its one's own self that is the perpetrator of bondage. No one else can take your freedom away until you let them, a mind can be free even in chains. The soul can soar, see light in the darkest pits, can survive moments of deepest despair. All that matters, is choice.

Let the Imagination Begin...

I really need to write down all the wacky stories I tell my children before sleep time, for example one is a series of episodic stories called the A-team in which the characters are a Mano, a Doggie, a Genie, a Space warrior/alien, the Monkey and the Owl who is the smartest living thing in the universe and Ali baba... All of them have powers or abilities ... The Mano can't be mind controlled, a telepath. The Doggie is the scientist... Genie is actually the last of his kind of an extremely advanced race that actually not got extinct but ascended to a higher plane of existence. Space worrier is an exiled prince who eventually got his kingdom back on his planet with the help of his friends and so on... In a recent story the plot was that the all of the world's s chocolate cakes started to mysteriously vanish and the culprit was the monster created by jealous fruits and Vegetables who were discarded... Their anger created this monster... After a long battle the solution... the

From the Sidelines

Happy to sit on the sidelines watching the world go by, for I cannot be anyone else other than my self. This race in which everyone is running... Does not interest me... For I never did like to follow... It seems it's a pill that I must swallow for I must give the appearance of compliance Cause that's what slaves do.

The Obituary of Sanity

Future generations will surely look at this time and wonder what was the reason behind the missed opportunity. Why did the humans of this time squander and plunder every natural resource they could find. Why didn't they realise that by poisoning the earth they were in fact poising themselves. Why with all the freedom to build, to nurture, we choose war & destruction. I certainly don't have all the answers and I sincerely believe that no one else has either, if we had, human kind would have long changed its ways. What a wasted opportunity though, all that intellect and potential serving only petty desires of wealth and conquest. Look around you, every act of suffering inflicted on another human being is by a human being. Every injustice, every atrocity, every act of insane violence, is self inflicted as if the human kind is hell bent on self annihilation. The divide has never been clearer. Every corner of the earth, walls are being erected. Walls of intolerance, of

Retrospect. Introspect.

How can you go about censuring others when you might be guilty of the same.  How quickly we become the Judge and the executioners. A mystic once said, that nothing ever had him dumbfounded but a woman who had a tray in her hands, it was covered with a cloth. He asked her what was in it and she said, why would I have covered it if I wanted this to be known? That was an epiphany which made the mystic really ashamed. This is not just a saying, its a lesson of a life time, that if something is hidden, or you come to know about a wrong doing, don't try to uncover or spread it to others. Don't try to look under the masks we all wear, even if you are certain that the there is something dreadful. If someone has respected you this much that he has presented his best face to you, the least we can do is to accept it. Everyone has demons in their closets which they hide from even themselves. May Allah keep concealing our sins in this world & the next, for if we knew about each o

Ode to Parents

When you were a child Every sight wondrous Every sound marvellous Every new day joyous On along the way you lost Sweet happiness naive Innocence That Something irreplaceable The inner light so incredible A love too unconditional Eyes closed in mother's lap fragile visage indestructible Nothing felt impossible Embrace of a father lifting a child feeling low Reassuring and sublime There for him all the time Still can hear those prayers That were meant for you As you lay down at night Mother's arm pillow just right Instilled with love & affection Values & virtues live on The sum of all nurture when love becomes nature

The Dilemma of Certitude

Image
Trying to understand the world around us, what makes people do the things they do, their motivations, their beliefs, is it simply that black and white, what about the greys?
Why do we find that most of the times those supposed bastions of faith are the ones the most corrupt. Dont these people understand the precept of their own belief system. What makes them not practice what they preach? The answer to this question unlocks the deepest mysteries of belief and sin.
Unfortunately the dogma that one adheres to does not supersede the universal vice of greed & ego, until there is equality, all the promise of salvation is deluded, a smokescreen to enslave and exploit, regardless of what dogma you adhere to, if in practice there is injustice and there is a clear divide, it is a failure.
Here is the stumbling block, when one tries to make sense of what one observes, with logic alone and can be forgiven for thinking that perhaps the purpose of every theological dogma

Mediocrity The New Norm

The reality of living in this world, a conflict between the needs and wishes deeply anchored in the class divide. I see mediocrity so permanently imbued in the collective psyche.  Sometimes all one can do is to give in to the mundane, stop living & just exist. Finding someone to have an offbeat, real meaningful conversation, an impossibility. I sought refuge in the social media for some time, but that too has become stale, tedious. A habit without any emotional reward. The interaction, all but reduced to regurgitation of bent opinions and trumpeting of political agenda or some religious doctrine, manipulation. No one questions anymore, no one has time to think for himself and arrive on conclusions, perhaps wrong but his own. This place has no respite, no open space to just sit and ponder. One wonders is it by design? The whole system built on repression, on exploitation, the divide, easily seen. Yet the rituals of allegiance continue, conditioning the masses not to question. A
